The Jolly Roger Philosophy

Our philosophy is to work within each child’s individual ability and development in a class group, teaching water safety skills and the life skill of swimming, in a fun and safe environment; and to continually extend each child as they progress.

End of term rewards

Every child will receive a ribbon on the last lesson of the term:  their class ribbon (if they have passed the level); or a ribbon containing a pirate message (if they are to remain in the same level the following term).  Each instructor also awards one of their students a Pirate of the Term rosette.  Children are chosen on their attitude towards their lessons, how they participate in their class and on progress made.

The Crew

Lynn is a mother of three children, who has followed her passion for teaching children to swim.

Lynn previously managed two other swim schools prior to establishing Jolly Roger Swim School with Melissa in 2011.

Lynn holds the following Swimming NZ qualifications: National Certificate in Swim Teaching, Early Childhood in Water, Teaching Swimmers with a Disability, School Age & Adults, Assistant Coach Award, Evidence Gatherer.

Other teaching qualifications include: Teacher Aide Cert (How Children Learn, The Developing Child, Behaviour Management, Language Development), First Aid.

Even though we endeavour that all classes are taught by the same instructor for the term, this cannot always be the case, and it may be necessary for an instructor to have a class relieved due to illness or personal reasons.  It is our policy that the class instructor writes a detailed lesson plan for the reliever, if a change of instructor is required.  As all of our rolls contain the goals for each class, a relieving instructor can easily see the ability of each child in the class, including what they have achieved to date.
